Since we already did red, which would also have been appropriate for February, the month of Valentine’s Day, the color for this month is purple. At least there is some red in there. Purple is my daughter’s favorite color (those are some of her clothes in the photo), so she helped me come up with the initial list here, but I am curious to see what you all will contribute.
For the uninitiated, the idea is to come up with ways to evoke purple without mentioning the color itself since one of the challenges of writing effective descriptions is getting the color just right. Each month on this blog we work on one color, so far we’ve done white, gray, brown, orange, red, green, pink, blue, and yellow.
Here’s my list for purple (let’s see what you come up with!):
amethyst
bruise
eggplant
lavender
lilac
plum
violet
hmmm…I've always thought I'm stumped because I come too late and everyone has taken my choices- but now, I'm pretty much at the beginning of the comments and I can't think…..let's see….
Barney the children's show character??
taro ice cream
heather, orchid
Royal (Isn't purple the color of royalty?)
Phoenician
Pansy
Iris
Beet
Grape
Wine
Bordeaux
Royal was the first thing to come to my mind too!
Mauve
Aubergine
Bruise 🙂
Eggplant
The collision between blue and red 🙂
Minnesota Vikings jerseys
Lavender
Oh, now that I looked at yours, I see you had most of them! I was so proud of "bruise"…
I thought Royal too. And Lent or advent. In the Catholic church during these times the priest vestaments are purple, the church has purple on the altar etc. 🙂
Very neat exercise!
Anjuli – Barney is great! All you have to say is Barney and people will think purple dinosaur, right? That's the point!
Pat Dea – heather, yes!
Kelly – royal seems to be one many here agree on.
The Desert Rocks – I'm glad you added grape! And pansy!
Coleen – mauve, I like that.
Fabio – not to worry, great minds think alike! I was proud of the bruise, too…
Kara, yes, you're right – the vestments are a striking hue of purple!
Boy am I bad Annette. I apologize for not stopping by in a while. I am trying to keep up with everyone and visit new bloggers and I'm falling behind. And apparently I haven't been by for a while. I can't believe it.
Okay. I am going to say haze. I think of purple haze. Is haze a color? Wait, I'm looking it up. Hold on. Yep, I think so. Also how about the color of prunes. I think they qualify as purple.
I enjoyed myself Annette. This was fun. Come get me Annette. Wave a flag or something. I'm embarrased. You'll see me soon! 🙂
How about thistle or mulberry?
